The Baltimore Irish Arts Center is once again offering small group classes in Traditional Irish Music taught by some of the region's most accomplished Irish musicians. This is a great opportunity to meet other musicians, find out where the sessions are and perform in a student showcase at the end of the series.

2008 Sligo Creek Hedge School an Irish Music & Culture Camp for Children  in Silver Spring, MD

NEW - Sprouting Celts
July 21-25, 9-11:30 a.m. Ages 6-7
Let your budding Celt experience Irish music and fun in this half-day camp geared for the little ones. We'll sing, play games, learn some Irish, make Celtic crafts, and have a daily poetry and juice break.

(Child must have turned 6 by January 1, 2008)
COST $150 before April 15th.*

Teen Celtic Band Week
July 28- August 1, 9:30-4:00 Ages 13-18
Co-taught by Paul Oorts, for teens already seriously involved in music. This week works on developing ensemble skills, presenting traditional and contemporary Celtic music for concert audiences. Layering, dynamics, creating intros, bridges, endings, and crafting performance arrangements will be the focus of the camp. Music theory to help understand and develop skills creating ensemble parts will be taught. The group will record a CD of their newly created large and small ensemble arrangements.

Audition required.
COST $300 before April 15th.* (morning drop-off time 9-9:30.)

Intro to Irish Music & Arts
August 4-8, 9:30-3:30  Ages 9-14 (no music experience needed)
Learn to play the Irish drum, accordion, pennywhistle and sing Irish songs. Do Celtic crafts and games. Fun poetry for children! This is an excellent introduction to Irish music and culture.

COST $300 before April 15th.* (morning drop-off time 9-9:30.)

Musician's Week
August 11-15, 9:30-4:00 Ages 9-14
Must already be playing Irish music and have several tunes memorized at tempo. Everyone will learn pennywhistle & bodhran (Irish drum) in addition to their main instrument and sing some Irish songs. We'll have daily music sessions and learn new tunes.

Audition required.
COST $300 before April 15th.* (drop-off time 9-9:30.)

Blue Ridge Irish Music Societu  (BRIMS)
classes for various instruments  
sponsored by Blue Ridge Irish Music School (BRIMS)

schedule:
BRIMS will offer a six-week series of classes beginning in early September.
Classes will include fiddle, tinwhistle, bodhrán, and stepdance, and a
non-performance introduction to the history of Irish traditional music.
Most classes will be held in Charlottesville, but if demand and resources allow, stepdance and fiddle may be offered at the Rockfish Valley Community Center near Nellysford.
